Membership Agreement

Last Updated: October 3, 2025

All Members will sign this agreement before they receive their entry code.

Membership Includes:

  • Access to equipment in the studio nearly 24/7*
Firing Members have access to use the slab roller and extruder, but they do not have access to the studio wheels or workspaces for creating their work.

  • Bisque firing

  • Access to studio glazes

*Some areas of the studio are prioritized for students when classes or workshops are in session. There also may be times when the studio needs to close for maintenance. Planned maintenance will be communicated to members with as much notice as possible.

Members Are Responsible For:

  • Checking and knowing the current Studio Rules.

  • Leaving the studio slightly cleaner than when you arrived

Members are responsible for additional charges for:

  • Registration ($30 per membership activation)

    • If you cancel your membership and then resume it in the future you will be charged this fee each time

  • Key Depots ($50, refunded when key is returned)

  • Clay purchased from the studio.

  • Glaze firings ($10/square foot)

  • Damage to kiln shelves or another member’s work caused by my own work.

Personal Risk:

  • I agree not to hold Hatch Clayworks financially liable for any injury incurred on the premises.

Firing Risks:

  • I understand that there are inherent risks to having my work fired.

  • I understand that Hatch Clayworks is run by real people, and while every effort is made to care for my work, unintentional mistakes can happen. I will not hold Hatch Clayworks financially responsible for any damage to my work.

  • I will pay firing charges for all work I submit, regardless of the fired results

Pickup of Work:

  • If I do not pick up my finished pieces within 30 days, they become the property of Hatch Clayworks and may be moved to the Rehoming shelf. At this point they can be claimed by others or eventually buried at sea (or, more accurately, recycled or discarded to make room for new work).

Privacy & Filming

  • We fully support more clay content in the world but to respect everyone’s comfort and privacy, members may not photograph or record video of others in the studio without their express permission. Please keep personal filming and photography focused on your own work and avoid including others unless they’ve agreed.

Payment:

  • I understand I am required to set up automatic payments upon becoming a member.

  • I am responsible for keeping my payment information current and notifying the studio of any changes.

  • Payments will be processed monthly on or near my membership renewal date.

  • Monthly payment amounts may vary depending on my account balance.

  • No payment will be processed if my account balance is zero or negative.

  • Negative balances will not result in a credit to my bank or card.

  • I am responsible for any bank fees due to insufficient funds or other payment issues.

Guests:

Hatch is a shared space for members and students first, but full and firing members are welcome to bring a guest occasionally.

  • If you bring a guest, you’re fully responsible for them at all times. They must stay with you and follow the studio rules and membership pledge

  • Guests must be adults (18+) and you may bring only one at a time. Please text Kelly before they arrive to let her know who’s coming.

  • Anyone who touches clay or uses studio tools must pay a $10 guest fee at the start of the visit.

  • If your guest is simply (and quietly) hanging out, reading, sketching, or relaxing in the community area, they may stay for up to two hours. If they decide to participate in any clay activities, the guest fee applies.

  • Make sure your guest helps clean up and treats the space with care. Repeated issues or unannounced guests may lead to loss of guest privileges and this policy can change at any time.

Canceling Membership:

  • I may cancel my membership at any time. Hatch Clayworks will automatically renew my membership if I do not notify them before the end of my current term.

  • To cancel, I must:

    • Provide written notice at least one day before my next billing date OR cancel myself in kilnfire.

    • Remove all personal items from my shelf before my renewal date.

    • Any remaining items become the property of Hatch Clayworks.

Membership Termination by Hatch Clayworks:

  • Membership is a privilege. Hatch Clayworks may terminate my membership at any time. No refunds or prorated fees will be issued. All items left behind become the property of Hatch Clayworks.

  • Reasons for termination include:

    • Repeatedly breaking studio rules.

    • Violating the Member Pledge or failing to uphold its values.

    • Disrespect toward members, their work, or privacy.

    • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the studio.

    • Bringing or consuming alcohol without staff permission.

    • Possession or use of illegal drugs on site.

    • Touching electric kilns without staff permission.

    • Failing to pay balances on time.

    • Entering staff-only areas without permission.
