Class Agreement,  Rules & Responsibilities

Last Updated: February 27, 2026
All students will sign this agreement before their first class

What’s Included with Your Class

  • Access to basic studio tools are provided for class use. Please clean and return them after each session. They miss their friends when they're not put back in their homes.

  • Reclaimed Clay is included. You may access this via the reclaim bin in the studio.

  • Bisque firing is included at no charge.

  • Up to 4 square feet of glaze firing is included. Student work has its own shelf in the kilnroom and your awesome instructor will teach you how this works

  •  Students also have the option to obtain an (optional) student add-on membership to gain 24/7 access to the studio after their first class. Ask your instructor for more details.

Studio Cleanup Responsibilities

  • Clean your wheel and surrounding area after every session.

  • Clean and return ware boards and remove extra plastic or unused boards from your shelf.

  • Wipe down the wedging table, glaze tables, and other shared surfaces that you used.

  • Leave the studio slightly cleaner than when you arrived.

Studio Boundaries

To keep Hatch safe and welcoming for everyone, the following are not allowed:

  • Handling another person’s work or tools without their permission

  • Guests in the studio

  • Anyone under 18 in the studio or classroom

  • Pets (unless service animals or approved for a special event)

  • Drugs or being under the influence while in the studio

  • Alcohol (unless approved for a special event)

  • Firearms or weapons

Glaze Guidelines

  • Always check with your instructor before submitting work for glaze firing.

  • The bottoms of your pieces must be completely free of glaze.

  • Refer to our glaze test tiles before selecting glazes. Ask your instructor if you have any questions.

Firing Risks:

  • Hatch Clayworks takes great care when handling your work, but there are always risks involved. Damage can happen—nicks, fusion, cracks, breakage, or even total loss—sometimes at the whim of the kiln gods, or just plain bad luck.

  • I understand that Hatch Clayworks is run by real people, and while every effort is made to care for my work, unintentional mistakes can happen. I will not hold Hatch Clayworks financially responsible for any damage to my work.

Firing & Last Chance Schedule

  • Bisque Firing (Cone 06) & Glaze Firing (Cone 6):

  • We only fire full kilns. If your work doesn’t make the current load, it will have priority for the next one. Work is unloaded 2 days after loading.

  • Work must be bone dry. Use the Greenware rack for drying. We are not responsible for cracking due to fast drying.

  • Pieces may not stay grouped together—kilns are loaded by size for efficiency.

  • For kiln loading & unloading updates check Kilnfire

Last Chance Shelf

  • Use this as a final pickup opportunity.

  • Do not remove work that isn’t yours.

  • Work will remain for about 30 days.

  • After that, it will move to the Rehoming shelf.

Cancellation & Makeup Policy

  • If you need to withdraw at least 5 days before your class begins, we’ll issue a full credit toward a future class. If it’s closer than that, we can only offer credit if we’re able to fill your spot. Once classes start, we’re unable to issue credits, refunds or makeup time for missed sessions.

  • If you miss a session instructors will do their best to catch students up on projects the following class. Makeup opportunities are not guaranteed. When they are possible, they are likely to take place during open studio time and will involve working independently.

Membership & Student Termination by Hatch Clayworks:

  • Taking a class is a privilege. Hatch Clayworks may terminate my membership at any time. No refunds or prorated fees will be issued. All items left behind become the property of Hatch Clayworks.

  • Reasons for termination include:

    • Repeatedly breaking studio rules.

    • Disrespect toward members, their work, or privacy.

    • Being under the influence of alcohol or drugs in the studio.

    • Bringing or consuming alcohol without staff permission.

    • Possession or use of illegal drugs on site.

    • Touching electric kilns without staff permission.

    • Failing to pay balances on time.

    • Entering staff-only areas without permission.
